ROJALES MAYOR HELPS RESCUE ABANDONED PONY

A pony found tangled in ropes and wandering along the river in Rojales has been rescued with the help of Rojales Mayor Antonio Perez.

The Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre at Rojales was alerted to the case on March 1st by a member of the public, who spotted the abandoned pony and untangled her before calling police.

In a stroke of luck, Mayor Perez and several Councillors were out on a women’s solidarity walk in the same area and quickly offered to help find the pony.

The pony was eventually located and, after gaining police permission, Sue and Rod Weeding collected the pony and brought her back to their Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre, where she will live permanently. We have named her Antonia in honour of the Mayor and for all the help he has given the Rescue Centre.

The centre now cares for more than 90 horses, ponies and donkeys saved from abuse and neglect.

Donations and sponsorships to help continue this important work are gratefully welcomed. Every cent donated or spent in the Rescue Centre’s network of eight charity shops across the Alicante province goes toward the feeding and care of these animals.

Donations of furniture, clothing and bric-a-brac to stock the shops are welcome. Please call 652 021 980 for more information about furniture pick-ups and volunteering.

A fund raising event has been organised by Roger Drew from the Campoverde Reef Band for the Rescue Centre on Saturday 21st March at the New Asturias restaurant Punta Prima.

Doors open at 7.30pm, tickets €5.00 each. There will be a bar, and food is available in the ground floor restaurant.

You can reserve your ticket at any of the Easy Horse Care charity shops, at the restaurant

or at http://reefband.yolasite.com.

The Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre opens to the public for free on the first Sunday of every month from 1pm to 4pm. The first horse tour begins at 2pm. Carrots and apples welcome.

The centre is located just outside Rojales at Partido Lo Garriga, 59. For more information and details on how to sponsor horses, please visit www.easyhorsecare.net.
