PEDESTRIAN SAFETY MEASURES IN MOJACÁR

Mojácar Council has completed the construction work on the pavement next to the existing beach bars “El Cantal” just in time for the Easter break.

The new 250 metre long section of pavement is up to 5 meters wide and has three loading and unloading areas, a bus stop and five low-rise points with corresponding pedestrian crossings. The parking will be located to either end of the new pavement, with the area opposite the Hostal El Flamenco having been made more accessible to vehicles.

This work was considered necessary by the municipal engineers in order to clearly separate road traffic from pedestrians. The mayor Rosa María Cano said, “as well as benefiting from the aesthetic and functional upgrade in this busy area we also expect to see fewer traffic delays and less danger to pedestrians. In the summer season, when there is great influx of tourists, the stretch between Cueva del Lobo and El Cantal has seen traffic jams caused by the continuous entry and exit of vehicles to and from the beach bars”.
