APRIL MEETING OF THE VEGA BAJA GARDEN CLUB

The main presentation for the Easter meeting was on the subject of drought resistant plants. This very interesting talk was made by Anna van Dijkh, assisted by Irene Davis, and will have been of great assistance to all gardeners here in Spain. The well illustrated presentation explained many aspects of the special adaptations that enable these fascinating plants to survive in very dry conditions.

As this was the Easter meeting and held on Easter Monday, the competition had a special light-hearted Easter theme, it was for the best Edible Easter Bunny. The best entry was judged to be that of Irene Davis, whose bunny had even brought along his carrots for lunch!

The May meeting of the Club will focus on a favourite flower, the rose. For Rose Month, the competition will be in three categories, a singe bloom, a floribunda, and the best perfumed rose. Each category can be entered as many times as you wish, but please remember to bring your flowers in vases suitable for display. There will also be a quiz on the topic of roses, organised by the club’s own rosearian, Ron Harris.

The next meeting will be held at Bar Trasgu, Calle Alicante 12, Formentera del Segura, on Monday 4th May at 2.15 for a 2.30 start.

If you are interested in gardening and would like to come along to the meeting, please do so, you will be most welcome.
