Beautiful Agua Amarga
Agua Amarga (“bitter water”) is a little white-washed fishing village on the edge of Cabo de Gata nature reserve. It sits in a quiet and sheltered bay almost hidden on the coast between two cliffs. Agua Amarga is fringed by a magnificent fine, sandy beach that stretches for 800m in front of the transparent turquoise waters of the bay.
There is a strong Moorish influence over the architecture of the village. Agua Amarga has a relaxed atmosphere and the hospitality is warm. It is a popular resort with the Spanish, all year round, as an ideal place for a relaxing holiday.
Moreover, Agua Amarga has been described as one of the last hidden paradises of the Mediterranean. Of late, the village has gone through controlled tourist development that sympathetically mixes the modern with the traditional.
There are charming bars and restaurants to tempt you and for the energetic there are a myriad of water sports to choose from such as water-skiing, jet-skiing, swimming, fishing, diving, boating and yachting. If you prefer walking the Cabo de Gata Natural Park is on your doorstep to explore.
It is Andalucia’s largest coastal nature park. The park covers some 38,000 hectares of land and another 12,000 hectares under water. It is an area of unspoilt beauty with unique scenery, volcanic craters, rocky headlands and sandy coves. Apart from walking and enjoying the scenery there is also cycling and climbing on offer.
