Brrrrr ! Deep freeze arrives as polar air front sweeps across Spain
Much of Spain has been put on alert for snow, wind and freezing temperatures as a polar air front sweeps across the nation.
The state meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued weather warnings in 20 provinces in nine of the seventeen of Spain’s semi-autonomous regions, as temperatures in some places are set to drop to below -10 degrees C.
The cold weather has hit northern Spain with temperatures plummeting in mountainous regions of Asturias, Cantabria and the Pyrenees.
Temperatures have dropped between 12 and 14 degrees C since last week but are expected to rise again from Wednesday.
The mountains of Huesca in Aragon are expected to be among the worst hit with the province put on amber alert.
The cold weather has also arrived in the Balearic islands, delivering a dusting of snow to the mountains in Mallorca.
But don’t let the winter blues set in.
Wrap up warm and enjoy what Spain does best when the mercury falls.
