The rain in Spain falls mainly in the drains

THE MINISTRY of Public Works has started emergency works to adapt, repair and improve the storm drainage system on the N-332 road as it passes through the junction with La Mata on Avenida de los Europeos in Torrevieja.

The works have been ordered following the very heavy storms that happened during last December completely cut off all four lanes of the dual carriageway, which are the main arteries of that area of the Costa Blanca.

There are already two large underground drains servicing these roads but they were simply insufficient to cope with the copious amount of water that fell, causing the N-332 and some of the surrounding roads to flood up to a level of one metre in points.

No specific budget for the works has been announced but will require the expansion of the existing drainage system that was installed in 2008 when the N-332 was converted to a dual-carriageway. The Ministry of Works have confirmed that the necessary construction won’t affect the day-to-day traffic flow.
