NIJAR Council has approved the site of the new headquarters of the Guardia Civil next to the town’s health centre.
Esperanza Perez, mayor of Nijar, said the construction was needed because an agricultural boom in the city, as well as seasonal and holiday events, had not been matched by strengthening Guardia Civil numbers.
Rising numbers of visitors and in the population “force us to demand more significant allocation of resources to ensure the safety of the population.”
The council will be working with the Ministry of the Interior to split costs and plan the phased construction of the facilities.
