Smart cities could be coming to Almeria

THE Provincial Government of Almería is the first Andalucian region to investigate creating ‘smart’ rural communities.

Initiatives include the citywide roll-out of applications to make it significantly easier for citizens to pay tax, track public transport, raise issues with local government and many other local services.

The Deputy for Economic Development and European initiatives, Carmen Belén López, has met with representatives from leading technology companies to see what the feasibility of such an introduction would be.

Almeria is the first deputation that has sat with technicians to consider a development strategy in this field which is one of the provincial government’s key competencies.
