NATIONAL Police have dismantled a suspected marihuana plantation in El Ejido.
Four people have been arrested as a result on suspicion of crimes against public health, fraud of electricity supply and illegal possessions of weapons.
The group were reportedly considered as one of the largest marihuana groups in the city, and were allegedly dedicated to planting cutting drying and selling the narcotic.
Investigations first began in July last year, when officers reportedly received information that a group were growing and selling marihuana in the Pampanico neighbourhood.
The plantation, which has been described as having a “sophisticated electrical and irrigation system”, was found inside a home in the area.
Police were finally able to arrest four alleged members of the group earlier this month and in the process seized a total of 445 marihuana plants, a block of hashish, two vehicles, 91 grinders, 77 halogen lamps and €500 in cash among other items
On top of this, officers also found two weapons, a hunting rifle and another rifle, with one believed to have been stolen from a house burglary
The operation was a joint operation with the electric company Endesa.
Alongside the Police, Endesa carried out a total of 53 power supply cuts related to marihuana plantations in Almeria in 2017.
