Moroccan facing prison for failed migration attempt

THE Provincial Prosecutor of Almeria will request four years and six month in prison for a Moroccan individual who allegedly attempted to get 22 undocumented Moroccans into Spain, according to reports.

An individual, known only as SS, reportedly faces an offence against the rights of foreign citizens after allegedly stealing a boat that was intercepted by Guardia Civil officers in Almerian waters.

A Guardia Civil patrol boat located the small boat at 11:40pm on at the end of July last year close to Balanegra, Almeria with 22 people on board, including two children.

The boat is believed to have come from the Moroccan coast heading towards the Spanish coast with the 22 Moroccans on board lacking any form of documentation.

Those on board are believed to have paid between €800 and €900 to be on the boat but were not provided with “the minimum security measures required such as a lifejacket or lighting.
