Man rescued after fall during search for missing boy

A 21-YEAR-OLD man has been rescued by the emergency services after falling into a tunnel of the Rodalquilar mines.

The man was reportedly involved in the search for missing 8-year-old  Gabriel Cruz Ramirez when he fell into the mine tunnel.

Nijar firefighters and Civil Protection officers, alongside two expert mountain volunteers were on hand to attend the man, who fell from a reported height of 40 metres between the tunnels.

At the time of his evacuation the man was conscious and responsive and was transferred to the Hospital de Torrecardenas de Almeria to be treated for his injuries

According to reports, the man and another that had accessed the mines had done it on their own without co-ordinating with the search operation already in place.

Volunteers in the search are advised to coordinate with personnel leading the search such as Guardia Civil, Civil Protection and police officers, as well as firefighters
