ALMERIA is set to receive €2 million from the Spanish Government to help repair the serious damages caused by storms that hit the region earlier this year, according to governmental delegate for Andalucia, Antonio Sanz.
The money will be distributed to seven of the most affected by the February downpour including Adra, Balanegra, El Ejido, Roquetas de Mar, Almeria City, Mojacar and Pulpi.
It will mainly be used on repairing jetty’s breakwaters and defence structures that were seriously damaged by unprecedented winds and waves in February’s heavy rainfall, while the money will also be used for the transfer and supply of additional sand.
It comes as Sanz announced more than €35 million will be allocated to carry out emergency works across the Andalucian coast to help clear some of the damages caused by the storms.
He told Spanish media: “The Government fulfills its word and its commitment to act with speed and diligence to repair the damages of the storm.”
“In just a few days, the technicians of the General Directorate of Sustainability of the Coast and Sea of the Ministry have inspected the beaches to collect the damages and have proposed emergency works that, in a record time, have already been given the approval of the Secretary of State for the Environment so that these works can start as soon as the weather advises and allows it.”
