GUARDIA CIVIL officers have arrested a Garrucha man in connection with an alleged assault on the former mayor of the town.

Police claimed the man is suspected of attacking Juan Francisco Fernandez, of the conservative Partido Popular (PP), with a wooden box on July 8. They also claimed he had threatened the father of Maria Lopez, the former mayor’s wife.

Officers added the event was “isolated” and that they believed it had nothing to do with council politics. They hoped to bring him before the courts to face trial soon.
