GUARDIA CIVIL officers have uncovered more than 50 kilograms of marihuana hidden among a fruit and vegetables from several vehicles following a probe in four urban areas of the province.

Police said the drugs were bound for countries such as Britain where officers suspect they would have been sold on.

Officers have arrested four people in connection with the find. Police said some of the drivers of the vehicles carrying the shipment did not know drugs were hidden among the cargo.

Guardia Civil officers said the 53 kilos of marihuana were packed in vacuum sealed bags and hidden among the fruit and vegetables inside the vehicles.

“The drugs were scrupulously packed and camouflaged in the load of the truck to avoid its location,” police said in a statement.

Several of the vehicles were also seized as part of the operation which saw officers make five visits to properties in Viator, Almeria City, Roquetas de Mar and La Mojonera.

Proceedings for the case have been sent to a court in Vera.
