OFFICERS of the Guardia Civil rescued a hiker on Wednesday who fell unconscious after fainting near the Cala Media Luna beach in San Jose.

The woman suffered a blackout and the Police, Fire Brigade and Civil Protection services attended the scene.

The Emergency Services’ Communications Centre had been alerted to the incident by a member of the public, and after receiving the message the different units went to the ‘Half Moon’ site, in Nijar.

There they found a woman of around 50 unconscious, and sources suggest she had hit her head on the ground before passing out.

First aid was administered to her and she was then transferred to Torrecardenas hospital, where she is believed to be in a stable condition.

The Guardia Civil advises that hikers should plan and prepare for their routes in detail, and that they should not go alone where possible.
