Housing pledge to help make home ownership a reality

DEMAND: Huercal-Overa Mayor Domingo Fernandez said local people now had the opportunity to build a home in the area in which they grew up

HUERCAL-OVERA council has regained ownership of land which had been allocated for housing with official protection status.

Mayor Domingo Fernandez signed the deeds on the plots in the San Francisco area of the municipality last week. He explained although the land had been earmarked for 34 Official Protection Properties by the Andalucia Land Public Company and the Andalucia Property and Restoration Agency, the housing had never been built.

The local council, therefore, began the necessary administrative procedures to recover the plots, putting them back into municipal hands.

The mayor said the local council would now make the plots available to local residents for the construction of their own homes. In total there are 3,500 metres, which the local authority said could be divided into 23 plots.

He said the move meant the council was fulfilling a pledge to residents, given the demand from land, especially from young families, who want to remain living in the area in which they grew up.

“With this they are a step closer to making their wish to live in San Francisco in their own property a reality”, Fernandez said.

Once they have been evaluated, the 23 plots will be made available through a public competition. They will be in addition to six other plots on municipal land to be made available for properties.
