TOUR operators at this week’s World Travel Market in London are keen to promote Almeria as a holiday destination, according to the provincial government.

An administration delegation was at the three-day event, considered one of the most important international tourism fairs, as part of the government Tourist Action Plan.

As well as showcasing the province’s beaches, natural parks, cuisine and important role in the movie industry at the Costa Almeria stand in the extensive Andalucia exhibition area, the delegation met with tour operators, online travel agents and airlines, including TUI Netherlands, TUI UK, Thomas Cook, Jet2.com and British Airways.

The delegation had already had dealings with a number of the companies, and said bringing in more tourists to Almeria, with an increase in the holiday offer in the province and by upping the number of connecting flights with European airports, were among the main topics discussed.

Government Vice-President Javier. A. Garcia underlined the importance of the provincial tourism sector in terms of generating wealth and employment, saying his administration would continue working towards “closing new agreements with tour operators inside and outside the European Union and to take our destination increasingly further.”

The UK is currently the main overseas market for the Almeria tourism industry,
