Romanian shoppers are prepared to risk crossing into Ukraine to find a bargain despite the conflict.

Despite the fact that a war is raging in most of neighbouring Ukraine, a report on Tuesday, October 25, revealed that bargain hunters from Romania are prepared to risk crossing the border in search of cheaper goods.

It is estimated that around 3,000 people daily have made the trip so far during October, crossing mainly through the northeast border checkpoint in the town of Siret.

One Romanian shopper explained: “I bought flour, sugar, oil, detergent. Detergent is cheaper than in Romania, about two euros cheaper. I went to Ukraine’s western city of Chernivtsi for a few things that are a bit cheaper than in Romania, about 30-40 per cent cheaper”, added another.

Chernivtsi is located in western Ukraine and has not endured the constant bombardment that most towns and cities in the country have faced. Even though the Russian military has recently stepped up its bombing campaigns, it would appear that Romanian shoppers are willing to take the risk to grab a bargain, as reported by euronews.com.
