Berlin Film Festival grants lifetime achievement award to Steven Spielberg

The American director to be honored with the Golden Bear at the 73rd edition of the Festival in February 2023 

The Berlin International Film has decided to honour the life´s work of American director, producer and screenwriter Steven Spielberg. According to a report by the Associated Press on Tuesday, November 22, the biggest prize of the festival, the Golden Bear, will be presented to Spielberg for his extensive work in cinema. 

Berlin Film Festival co directors Mariette Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian while praising Spielber´s work said, “With an incredible career, Steven Spielberg has not only enchanted generations of viewers all over the world, but has also given a new meaning to the ‘cinema’ as the factory of dreams”.  

They added, “Be it in the everlasting magic world of teenagers or in the reality that history has carved forever, his movies take us to a different level, where the big screen becomes the adequate surface for our emotions to be fulfilled”, the report states.  

A statement by the festival said, Spielberg´s work that spans over 100 movies and series, holds a major importance for international cinema. “The multiple Oscar winner’s work is unique in the history of international cinema of the past 60 years for its immense variety”, the statement added. 

The 73rd edition of the Berlin International Film Festival is scheduled to take place in February 2023. The festival will also screen his latest film, “The Fabelmans.”
