Lewis Hamilton comes in second after the Mercedes claim their first victory of 2022
The Team Mecedes took the first and second position on the podium this Sunday during the São Paulo Grand Prix. As Lewis Hamilton came second, F1 Racing driver George Russell managed to score his first ever Formula One win. In a statement according to the Guardian, Russell said, “This is just the beginning guys,” as he asked for some tissues after this emotional victory.
According to the report, Russell who started from pole position had benefitted from Max Verstappen and Hamilton once again going against each other on the track. As the pair clashed early in the race, they dropped positions, as Verstappen was eventually penalized for causing the incident. Eventually Hamilton also managed to get close up on Russell.
But Russell determination to win resulted in him setting up the fastest lap times on the track one after the other, which even Hamilton could not challenge.
In a later statement about Russel, Hamilton said, “Huge congratulations to George, he drove an amazing race and he deserved it”.
Mercedes had waited a long time for this moment. This is their first victory in 21 races, the longest such streak since the turbo-hybrid era began in 2014. Hamilton’s final victory with the team came at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2021.
The third position was taken by Carlos Sainz in his Ferrari.
