Ten others rescued by Greek coast guards patrol boats near the island of Kos.

The Greek coastguard on Thursday, November 18, announced that at least one migrant has died, and ten others were rescued near the island of Kos in Greece. According to a report by Euronews, the migrants were on a small boat that sank in the Agean sea. 

The Greek authorities responded upon receiving a distress call and two patrol boats were sent for the rescue operation. The report states that all men were found in the water when the rescue boats located them.  

A statement released by the coast guard said, “According to the rescuers, there were no other people on board the boat”. One of the migrants was found unconscious. But after the rescue boats arrived at the port of Kos, he was pronounced dead.   

The report also states that, the Greek coast guard have so far rescued over 1500 people in 2022, according to official statistics.  

Greece is one of the main entry routes for migrants trying to reach Europe where only a few weeks ago over 23 migrants lost their lives after two migrant boats sank, the report said. Several others are also reported to be missing.
