Princess Märtha Louise will keep her title but plans to continue working along with her shaman fiancé.

The Norwegian Princess Märtha Louise has renounced all her official duties as a royal to continue pursuing a career in alternative medicine, along with her fiancé, Durek Verrett, a self-proclaimed shaman.

A recent statement issued by the Royal House of Norway stated that the Princess is relinquishing her patronage role, and the couple plans to create a clear distinction between their activities and the Royal House of Norway.

The 51-year-old Princess has often been involved in controversies for decades, especially for her involvement in alternative medicine, including her starting a school that aimed to help people “get in touch with their angels”. She has also been accused of using her royal title for gaining competitive advantage.

Her fiancé, Durek Verrett has also been a part of controversies for promoting unscientific medical practices, one of which also suggested that cancer was a choice. He also describes himself as a “6th Generation Shaman¨ who claimed to have risen from the dead and also predicted the 9/11 attacks in the United States two years before they took place.

In a separate statement issued by the Princess, she said that it was important for her to “distinguish between me as a private person on the one hand and as a member of the Royal Family on the other”.

Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett announced their engagement on 7 June 2022.
