The Russian Defense Ministry on Thursday, November 10, announced that they are withdrawing their troops from the Ukrainian city of Kherson. The move could mark a turning point in the ongoing war, according to a report by Associated Press.

The report states that the Ukrainian officials have acknowledged that the Russian forces had no other choice but to free Kherson. But they decided to remain cautious due to fears of ambush attempts by the Russians. The report suggests that it is still unclear as to what was happening in Kherson from where tens of thousands have fled in recent weeks.

This move could potentially help Ukraine win back the territory they first lost, including Crimean which was illegally seized by Russia in 2014, the report states.

Meanwhile, western observers, according to the report, believe that Russian forces have been forces to withdraw, adding that a full withdrawal could take some time.

“The enemy had no other choice but to resort to fleeing,” said Valeriy Zaluzhny, Armed forces Commander in Chief, in a quote published in the Assocated Press. He also said that the Ukrainian army has destroyed supply lines and crippled Russia’s military leadership in the region.

Speaking about the confirmation of Russian troop withdrawal in Kherson, Zaluzhny commented that he could neither confirm nor deny, the report said.
