Universal studios have announced that they are working on a film about American West Coast rapper Snoop Dog, according to a report in The Guardian. The American studio made this announcement on Wednesday, November 9.
The film which will be produced by the 51-year-old rapper himself will be written by Joe Robert Cole, who co-wrote the two Black Panther films and directed by Allen Hughes, the filmmaker of Menace II Society.
Talking about his film, Snoop Dog said in a statement that he had been waiting for a long time to put this project together, ¨I wanted to choose the right director, the perfect writer, and the greatest movie company I could partner with that could understand the legacy that I’m trying to portray on screen, and the memory I’m trying to leave behind”.
The chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, Donna Langley, according to the report, stated that she met with Snoop immediately after he purchased Death Row Records. His singing came only days before Snoop performed with Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar at the famous Super Bowl halftime performance in February.
Snoop Dogg rose to prominence in the early 1990s as Dr. Dre´s partner on the West Coast rap scene. In his three-decade career, he has sold over 35 million records worldwide.
