14-year-old girl dies after knife attack in Germany

Police arrest one suspect after discovering recent injuries and a knife  

An attack in the German city of Ulm has resulted in the death on a 14-yea-old girl and seriously injuring a 13-year-old. According to a report by the Associated Press, the girls were attacked while on their way back from school on Monday, December 5.  

Authorities said the first responders on the scene managed to resuscitated the older girl. She was then rushed to the hospital in the nearby town of Illerkirchberg but was later reported dead. The 13-yea-old who was seriously injured is still in the hospital, the report said, but her injuries are not life threatening. An official statement by the Police said, “Despite all efforts by the doctors she died there”.  

Police have arrested a 27-year-old man, who was found at a refugee shelter near the site of the attack. The report said, the man is of Eritrean origin and was found with injuries and a knife. Investigators are now trying to determine if there is a link between the suspect and the girls, in order to understand the motive behind the attack.  

Police meanwhile have issued a statement to refrain people from “stoking suspicion against refugees, asylum-seekers and other foreigners”, the report said.
