Emergency worker killed were responsible for demining territories liberated by Ukrainian forces

Ukrainian authorities have said that three emergency service workers were killed after a mine exploded during a demining operation. According to a report in Reuters on Sunday, December 25, the workers were searching from mines in Ukraine´s Kherson region, where parts of the region have been liberated from Russian occupation.

A statement by Zhytomyr emergency service, quoted in the report said, “All three selflessly served in the emergency and rescue squad of the Special Purpose Unit of the State Department of Ukraine in Zhytomyr region and performed the task of demining territories liberated from the enemy in the Kherson region”.

Explosive experts have been working on ground in Ukraine after the announcement by President Volodymyr Zelensky, who said Russian forces had heavily mined the region including the building. The demining operations have been going on ever since, as Ukraine forces take back area under Russian control.

In mid-November Ukraine forces took back Kherson city, which is the regions administrative center, along with several other settlements in the region. But despite these efforts, Russia still continues to control most of this area.
