Argentinian football team captain says, “There’s a lot of years until the next one and I don’t think I have it in me”

Lionel Messi has announced that the final match in Qatar against France will be his last game at a World Cup. Messi made this statement after the team beat Croatia 3-0 in the World Cup semifinals, according to a report in CNN on Wednesday, December 14.

Talking about achieving his dream of reaching a World Cup final, Messi said, “I feel a lot of happiness to be able to achieve this. Everything I’ve lived in this World Cup, what people experienced and how much the people back in Argentina are enjoying it all is very emotional”.

Messi then announced that the final match on Sunday will be the last time he participates in a World Cup. “There’s a lot of years until the next one and I don’t think I have it in me and finishing like this is best and I am happy to finish my World Cup career playing my last game in a final.”, Messi said.

Talking about his journey to the finals during the 2024 World Cup he said, “I’m enjoying everything a lot, I feel strong to be able to face each match. We’ve come along making a lot of big sacrifices”.

Messi will now have his final chance to lift the 2022 World Cup trophy and to fulfill his lifelong dream if the team wins on Sunday.

France, meanwhile, won the semifinals against Morocco on Wednesday after beating them 2-0 to reach the Finals.
