Migrants escape after pregnant woman fakes labour forcing emergency landing in Barcelona

The flight from Morocco to Turkey made an emergency landing after reporting a medical event  

Over 28 passengers onboard a flight from Morocco to Turkey escaped the airplane after the plane made an emergency landing at Barcelona’s El Prat airport.

According to a report by Reuters, the flight landed early on Wednesday, December 7, after a medical event related to a pregnant woman was report in the flight, resulting in the flight being diverted to Barcelona.  

A statement by the Spanish government in the report said, “Police initially detained 14 people, including a pregnant woman who officials claim pretended that her water had broken, prompting the emergency landing”. The statement added, “Two people were arrested later, once of whom was apprehended inside the airport and the other who was found outside”.  

Five people who were initially detained by the police, were immediately put back in the plane operated by Turkey’s Pegasus Airlines. While eight more are yet to be deported back to Morocco.  

Government sources in the report have also stated that the pregnant woman was checked in hospital and found not to be in labour.  

Meanwhile 12 other people who escaped the plane have not been located yet, the report states. The plane was carrying a total of 228 passengers from Casablanca to Istanbul.
