Russia fires 33 missiles at Kherson intensifying attacks

Ukrainian officials say Russian forces stepped up mortar and artillery attacks on the recently liberated city of Kherson in southern Ukraine on Wednesday, December 28 

Russia has fired over 33 missiles at civilian targets in Kherson, eastern Ukraine.

According to a report in Reuters, this statement was made by the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, who said the missile strikes took place for 24 hours and stopped early on Wednesday.  

Ukrainian officials have also stated that mortar and artillery attacks were fired from multiple rocket launchers.   

The report said that heavy fighting also persisted around the Ukrainian-held city of Bakhmut in the eastern province of Donetsk. Aside from this fighting also continued in the northern cities of Svatove and Kreminna in Luhansk province.  

Following the strikes, Ukraine government turned on air raid sirens also across the country on Wednesday morning, but no missile strikes were reported later in the day.  

Meanwhile, Ukranian social media stated that a nationwide alert may have been issued after Russian jets stationed in the neighboring country of Belarus too off.
