Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the “the spirit of Ukraine” has been named Time Magazines 2022 Person of the year. According to a report by the BBC on Wednesday, December 7, the editor-in-chief of the American news magazine, Edward Felsenthal, said the decision was “the most clear-cut in memory”.
Felsenthal said, “In a world that had come to be defined by its divisiveness, there was a coming together around this cause, around this country”, adding, the “spirit of Ukraine” referred to Ukrainians around the world, including many who “fought behind the scenes”.
Every year the criteria for selecting the ´Person of the Year´ is based on an individual or an event that influences global events the most, in the past 12 months. The magazine while discussing Zelensky´s role in inspiring the people of Ukraine said that “Mr Zelensky was recognized internationally for his courage in resisting the Russian invasion”, adding, “Zelensky’s success as a wartime leader has relied on the fact that courage is contagious”.
Other who were also featured on the magazine cover this year includes, British trauma surgeon David Nott, who went into Ukraine to help those injured in the war, the report said.
Meanwhile, Times 2022 Heroes of the year were women in Iran and the K-pop band Blackpink was chosen as the Time’s Entertainer of the year.
