Matteo Bruni, Vatican spokesperson says Pope Benedict XVI condition remains grave, but he is stable at the moment

The Vatican has announced that the condition of former Pope Benedict XVI is grave but stable. According to a report by Reuters on Thursday, December 29, a statement made by a Vatican spokesperson said that he was lucid and aware.

“The Pope Emeritus managed to rest well during the night, he is absolutely lucid and aware, and today, even though his condition remains grave, the situation is at the moment stable”, said Matteo Bruni, Vatican spokesman.

Bruni further added that, “Pope Francis renews his request to pray for him and to accompany him in these difficult hours”.

The report said that Benedict lives at a former convent in the Vatican, where he is being taken care of. He has been living there since 2013, when he became the first pope to resign in over 600 years.

This statement about his condition comes after Pope Francis made an announcement on Wednesday, stating that the former Pope Benedict XVI was very ill. Francis also asked pilgrims at the Vatican to pray for him.
