Upon his arrival in Washington, Zelensky took to social media and said in a post, “I am in Washington today to thank the American people, the President and the Congress for their much-needed support”. He said the visit would “strengthen resilience and defense capabilities of Ukraine and also to continue cooperation to bring our victory closer”.

Biden was accompanied by first lady Jill Biden to greet the Ukraine president, before heading inside the Oval Office for a meeting. The report said, Zelensky is now scheduled for a press conference. He will then address the Congress, later in the evening.

This visit by the Ukrainian leader is his first visit outside his country, since the beginning of the Russian invasion. The report also said, his arrival comes at a time just before the U.S. government announced its largest aid package to Ukraine which includes Patriot surface-to-air-missiles. The U.S. Congress has also planned to vote on a package for emergency assistance to Ukraine worth over $45 billion.
