Authorities in Spain say an alleged terrorist attack took place on Wednesday, January 25, after a man stabbed people in two churches

A man in the southern Spanish port city of Algeciras has killed a sexton and stabbed a priest with a machete in two different churches.

As per the spokesperson of the city, the incident took place at 8 pm local time after a man entered the San Isidro and Nuestra Senora de La Palma churches and attacked the clergymen. Both the churches are reported to be 300 metres apart.

Reports in the El Mundo suggest that the Madrid High court is now investigating this case as terrorism.

“The man who was killed was Diego Valencia, a sacristan at the Nuestra Senora de La Palma church, while the titular priest of the parish church of San Isidro, Antonio Rodríguez, was among the injured and is in serious condition”, said the Algeciras city spokesperson, as cited by Reuters.

Police said the man was later arrested and it was revealed that he is a Moroccan national.
