Wagner announced Russian forces have taken control of the salt-mining town of Solider, as fighting reportedly continues

Russian contract militia Wagner has claimed that Russian forces have taken control of Soledar in eastern Ukraine.

According to a report by EuroWeeklyNews on Wednesday, January 11, the announcement was made after the mercenary group stated that fighting was still going on in the town centre.

Meanwhile Ukranian government has said that its troops in the region are still holding out.

After taking control of the salt-mining region of Ukraine, Russia considers it’s a stepping stone to help them take complete control of the Donbas region.

Russian forces have also reportedly targetted Soledar in order to use it as a platform to attack the near by city of Bakhmut.

Forces in this region have held up against the Russian attacks for months.

A statement by Wagner head Yevgeny Prigozhin cited in by Reuters said,  “Wagner units took control of the entire territory of Soledar. A cauldron has been formed in the centre of the city in which urban fighting is going on”.

Meanwhile, Kyiv government has said that its forces were still holding out against the attack.
