Germany’s decision to finally provide Ukraine with a supply of Leopard 2 battle tanks has been welcomed by President Volodymyr Zelensky after he expressed his gratitude towards the country.

As per a report in Euronews, after the confirmation of the supply, Germany along with its allies will be sending a total of 88 Leopard tanks.

The German Chancellor also said, “We will provide training, logistics, munitions, and maintenance of the systems, and as mentioned, enable partner countries to be able to deliver”.

The decision to send the tanks was also appreciated by Poland, who had been considering supplying the Leopard 2 tank to Ukraine without seeking permission from Germany.

Mateusz Morawiecki, Poland’s prime minister said in a Tweet that the decision was “s a big step towards stopping Russia”. He also thanked Germany for agreeing to Ukrainian demands.

Meanwhile, after the news of the tanks being delivered to Ukraine, Dmitry Peskov, Russian presidential spokesperson made a statement that said, “These tanks will burn down,” adding, “just like all the other ones”.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has also been reported to have raised objections towards Germany agreeing to supply the tanks, as he has questioned if “Germany was still a sovereign state”.
