US Pentagon says personnel from Ukrainian military to be trained on how to use and maintain advanced Patriot air defense system at a base in the state of Oklahoma

The United States defence department has announced that they will train military personel from Ukraine at their own base in Oklahoma.

According to a report in France 24 on Tuesday, January 10, this statement came after the decision by the US to give Patriot battery to Ukraine at the end of last year.

“Training for Ukrainian forces on the Patriot air defense system will begin as soon as next week at Fort Sill, Oklahoma,” said Brigadier General Pat Ryder, Pentagon Press Secretary Brigadier General Pat Ryder, as per the report.

He added, “The training will prepare approximately 90 to 100 Ukrainian soldiers to operate, maintain and sustain the defensive system over a training course expected to last several months,”

“Once fielded, the Patriot will… contribute to Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and provide another capability to Ukrainian people to defend themselves against Russia’s ongoing aerial assaults,” he added.

The air defences provided by the Patriot battery could help protect Ukraine from strikes as well as stop Russian forces from gaining more control in the skies.

“The goal of Ukraine’s international supporters is to build multi-layer air defenses for the country consisting of low-, medium- and high-altitude systems that can protect against a variety of threats”, the report said.
