Russian military says its forces have gained more control on the eastern frontlines of Ukraine as fierce battle reported near the city of Bakhmut

Russia has announced on Monday, February 13, that its troops have gain more control on the eastern frontlines of Ukraine, a few days after the mercenary group Wagner´s chief said a village near Bakhmut had been taken over.

According to a report in Reuters, the statement about gaining control over territories was made by the Russian defence ministry that said “Russian troops had managed to advance 2 km (1.2 miles) to the west in four days”.

“The Russian servicemen broke the enemy’s resistance and advanced several kilometres deeper into its echeloned defence,” it added.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has stated that its military has managed to repel several attacks by the Russian forces near the city of Bakhmut, located in the region of Donetsk.

Officials also said that several assaults were made in “Kharkiv, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions”.

Authorities in Ukraine also reported that about 16 of their settlements near Bakhmut had been ‘bombarded’ during heavy shelling by the Russians.

Most of the fighting has been reported focused around the city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine, as the Russian invasion is about to complete its first anniversary on February 24.

Bakhmut still remains under Ukrainian control after a month of intense fighting around its outskirts.
