Lawmakers in the European Parliament have approved a law banning the sale of fossil fuel cars in the EU from 2035

With an aim to combat climate change and reduce emissions, the European Parliament on Tuesday, February 14, has approved the law to ban the sale of new patrol and diesel cars from 2035.

The ban which will be implemented across the European Union, will require car manufacturers to cut down their missions from new cars by 100 percent.

The new law will also require car manufacturers to cut down the emission of their new car sold from 2030 to reduce their CO2 emissions by 55 percent, in comparison to the levels in 2021.

“The operating costs of an electric vehicle are already lower than the operating costs of a vehicle with an internal combustion engine”, said Jan Huitema, the European parliament’s lead negotiator on the rules, as cited by Reuters.

Huitema added, “It was crucial to bring more affordable electric vehicles to consumers”.

The 27 bloc of EU countries had previously agreed to the law in October 2022, but it still required approval from the parliament.

The law will now get a final approval in March.
