Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands have announced they will jointly invest to restore at least 100 Leopard 1 tanks for Ukraine to fight against Russia

A joint statement released by Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands on Tuesday, February 7 said that the countries aim on a joint investment to restore 100 Leopard 1 tanks for Ukraine.

According to a report by Reuters, the investment will be made to restore the tanks from industry stocks, before supplying them the Ukrainian military.

The countries also said that “Ukraine would receive within the coming months at least 100 Leopard 1 A5 tanks as well as training, logistical support, spare parts and an ammunition package”.

As per a statement by Boris Pistorius, Germany´s defence minister, 20 to 25 tanks will be delivered to Ukraine by summer, while 80 will be delivered by the end of the year.

The statement added that more than 100 tanks will then be delivered by 2024.

How many of these tanks can actually be delivered to Ukraine at the end of the day depends on the extent of the restoration work needed,” said the joint statement by the Germany´s economy and the defence ministries, cited by the report.

The statement further added that “Details of the deal still need to be worked out with the companies that own the tanks”.
