Maia Sandu, president of Moldova has invited US president Joe Biden after tensions between Moldova and Russia increase

The President of Moldova has announced on Wednesday, February 22, that she has invited her US counterpart Biden to her country as the tensions between the two former Soviet countries intensifies.

Sandu made the comments on Facebook, and said that she extended the invitation during a meeting in Warsaw.

According to the Reuters, Biden administration have extended the support for “Moldova’s sovereignty”.

“I used the opportunity of this meeting to convey to the President of the United States that, in the difficult situation we are in, with a war at the border, we need even more U.S. support to strengthen our economic resilience,” wrote Sandu.

She added, “I invited President Biden to pay a visit to our country.”

This comes after fears that Russia is aiming to destabalise Moldova, following the attempt to topple their government, for which their government has accused Moscow.

Sandu also said, “I conveyed to President Biden that Moldovans want to remain part of the free world, to live safely and to realise their dream of joining the European Union”.
