A group of Moroccan truck drivers will be trained an employed by Spain in a bid to channel migration into Europe´s transport sector

Officials in Spain have announced that the government will be hiring a group of Moroccan drives, with an aim to channel migration into Europe´s transport sector which has been severely affected by labour shortages.

According to a report by Reuters, the announcement was made by a senior Spanish government official on Thursday, February 2, during a summit in Rabat.

Economies in the west such as Spain for the past two years have been suffering to labour shortages which has led to problems with supplies.

As per estimates provided by the European Road Hauliers Association, there is a shortage of about 400,000 truck drivers in Europe.

Through this proposal Spain plans to apply a new migration policy that would make it easier to hire foreigners from their country of origin. This will allow non-Spanish resident to fill technical vacancies as well as help them attain visas for studies.

Through this move the Spanish government aims to remove the friction both countries have had due to irregular migration, in a bid to improve relationships.
