The defence ministry of Spain has said that they will send six German made Leopard tanks to Ukraine

Spain has announced that six German Leopard battle tanks will be sent by Ukraine, to help with the war against the Russian invasion.

According to Reuters on Wednesday, February 22, the announcement was made by the Spanish defence ministry, who said that the tanks will be send after they are repaired.

“We are repairing right now six Leopard 2A4 vehicles … with the possibility – if needed and if our allies request it – of increasing that number”, said Margarita Robles, Spain´s defence minister.

She added that the tanks are scheduled to be ready by end of March or the beginning of April and the number sent to Ukraine could also increase over time.

This comes after Ukraine secures a deal for modern battlefield tanks from the Western allies.

Aside from Spain, other NATO countries including Germany, Poland and Portugal have also said that a total of 48 Leopard 2 tanks will be sent to Ukraine.
