Ukraine has seized more than €96 million worth of assets belonging to exiled billionaire Vadym Novynskyi, who is being investigated for “aiding” the Russian government.

According to the Ukrainian security service, more than €96 million (3.5 billion hryvnia) worth of assets belonging to exiled billionaire Vadym Novynskyi have been seized by the government on Thursday, April 13.

The assets have been seized as Novynskyi is presently being investigated for his role in “aiding” the Russian government, as per Reuters.

Estimated by Forbes to be worth $1.4 billion, Novynskyi is one the richest men from Ukraine, who is an ex-lawmaker and a sponsor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

Sanctions were issued by Ukraine against Novynskyi in December 2022, along with several other bishops from the UOC, after raids were conducted on the church properties, following accusation of links with Russia.

“The property of pro-Russian oligarch Vadym Novynskyi, who is involved in aiding the aggressor country, was seized,” said SBU security agency in a statement.

The agency added, “it had found pro-Kremlin religious literature while conducting property searches during its investigation”.

Meanwhile, Novynskyi’s company Smart Holding said earlier this week that “its offices had been raided by the SBU”, as they called the move “baseless”.
