Over 400 British nationals have been evacuated from Sudan and are being flown to Cyprus.
The UK government has airlifted British nationals from Sudan, before the end of the 72 hours cease fire between the army and the paramilitary group.
According to Reuters on Wednesday, April 26, about 400 people have been evacuated after they were airlifted and will shortly be landing in Cyprus.
A statement by Constantinos Kombo, Foreign Minister for Cyprus, “391 people had flown to Larnaca airport in Cyprus from Sudan by mid-afternoon on Wednesday”.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated that “eight repatriation flights would leave Sudan by the end of Wednesday.”
The statement also said that the British nationals will be flows to the UK from Cyprus.
“This is just the beginning of an operation,” said, British High Commissioner to Cyprus Irfan Siddiq, adding “the UK government had 2,500 Britons registered in Sudan”.
