The foreign ministry in Norway said that 15 Russian embassy officials are being expelled as they were undercover intelligence officers.

Norway will expel 15 Russian embassy officials who, as per the foreign ministry are “intelligence officers operating under the cover of diplomatic positions”.

This statement was made by the ministry on Thursday, April 13, as per Reuters, as it comes as the latest expulsion of a diplomat from Russia, based in Western countries, since the invasion of Ukraine.

As per reports “Some 40 Russian diplomats are currently accredited in Oslo, so the expulsions amount to more than a third of their number”.

Norway has previously also expelled three Russians in April 2022, as other countries including Estonia, the Netherlands and Austria had also previously expelled diplomats after the start of the war.

“Their activities pose a threat to Norway,” said, Anniken Huitfeldt, Norwegian Foreign Minister, adding, “We have followed their activities over time. They have increased since the invasion of Ukraine.”

Meanwhile, after the statement by Norway, the Russian foreign ministry has said that they will respond to the expulsion of their citizen.
