Vladimir Putin visited two regions in Ukraine, which are claimed by Russia to have annexed on the same day as their forces steeped up attack on Bakhmut.
According to Reuters on Tuesday, April 18, “Russian forces pressed assault on Bakhmut by “stepping up heavy up heavy artillery bombardments and air strikes”.
A statement released by the Kremlin said that “Putin on Monday had attended a military command meeting in Ukraine’s southern Kherson region and visited a national guard headquarters in eastern Luhansk”.
It added, “Putin heard reports from commanders of the airborne forces and the Dnieper army group as well as other senior officers who briefed him on the situation in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions in the south”.
The Kremlin also stated that” Neither Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu nor Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov joined Putin on his trip as a security precaution”.
