Ukraine´s Foreign Minister says peace summit should be held before the end of February 2023, but only if Russia faces a war crime tribunal first
As the Ukraine conflict enters its tenth month in December, the country´s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba has announced that a UN backed peace summit should be organized by the end of February 2023, in order to put an end to the war.
According to interview of Kuleba by Euronews on Monday, December 26, he said that such a summit will only be possible if Russia faced a war criminal tribunal first. Kuleba said the summit should be held with Secretary-General António Guterres as the mediator.
But the foreign minister also added that the Ukrainian government doesn’t expect the Russia authorities to take part in such a summit, which would make it difficult to foresee an end to the invasion in Ukraine.
“Every war ends in a diplomatic way, every war ends as a result of the actions taken on the battlefield and at the negotiating table”, Kuleba said during the interview.
Kuleba also discussed the Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky´s visit to the US and said, he was “absolutely satisfied with the results”. He also announced that the US government plans to supply the Patriot missile battery, and have it operational in the country, in less than six months.
