The accident happened at 4am, and overnight traffic was diverted into Novelda town centre. The driver of the container lorry which was transporting tomatoes, was injured and admitted to Elche hospital.
The overturning of the trailer on the motorway A31 direction Alicante-Madrid provoked kilometres talkbacks between Monforte and Novelda since the early hours of today.
Firemen from Elda District Park, noted the cabin of the lorry was hanging off the edge of bridge with a height of five metres.
The driver is from Eastern Europe, aged 47 and was taken to hospital by SAMU ambulance to Elche with minor injuries awaiting tests.
The road will be reopened when the wreckage of the lorry has been removed.
