ARRESTED: David Grundy

LOCAL POLICE officers in Benidorm have arrested and detained fugitive Dave Grundy, the 53-year-old British citizen who had been on the run for five days.

Despite his name and face being spread across the local press and on social media, his whereabouts was unknown.

The man was found inside a car in Calle Estocolmo in the Rincón de Loix, one of the most popular areas of the city frequented by British tourists, when he was taken by surprise by local police as he returned to his vehicle in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Sources have said they believed that Mr Grundy could have gone to Benidorm immediately after fleeing the scene on June 13, when he allegedly stabbed his partner, a 42-year-old British woman at his Campoamor home.

When he was found by the Policia Local following a tip-off from their counterparts in Pilar de la Horadada.

He had €4,600 in cash and a significant amount of clothes with him and police suspect that he was preparing to flee the country.

The manhunt began after Grundy’s partner, named as Nicola Anne Walker Houghton, was found by her daughter lying in a pool of blood with a large knife in her back last Tuesday morning.

She was rushed to hospital where her initial condition was described as ‘very grave’.
