THE Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development, Rodrigo Sánchez Haro, has confirmed that “seven out of ten Spanish tomatoes exported to the European Union comes from Almeria and Granada.”

Mr Sanchez Haro said that: “Almería has become, thanks to the efforts of thousands of producers, an authentic export power” and noted that the sales of Andalusian food abroad are at a seven-year high “and are still rising.”

Currently, the province of Almeria exports the most food from Andalucia, with 26% of the regional total, and is the largest exporter of vegetables in Spain, accounting for 37% sales exceeding 2,000 million euros.

The province remains a noted pioneer in Spanish agricultural and for sales in fruits and vegetables across Europe.
